Principal Coach/Assistant Conductor
Liora
Maurer has performed and taught all over the world, including the
United States, Israel, Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, Peru and Puerto
Rico. She joined the New York City Opera as Assistant Conductor during
the 1997-1998 season. She was the recitative accompanist for City
Opera’s production of Rossini’s Viaggio a Reims, opening the 1999-2000
season supervised by Phillip Gossett. Ms. Maurer has also accompanied
the recitatives for Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as
contributing to the musical preparation of the NYCO telecasts of
Britten’s Paul Bunyan and Puccini’s Tosca. In addition to NYCO, Ms.
Maurer’s association with other companies include Opera Omaha’s Carmen
and La Bohème, Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Puccini’s Tosca with
Asociación Bel Canto in Lima, as well as her work with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Pittsburgh
Opera Theater and the New Israeli Opera. She has prepared the Seattle
Opera Young Artists for productions of Falstaff and Gianni Schicchi,
and worked on the main stage production of Aida in 2008. She will
return to Seattle Opera for Le Nozze di Figaro in April 2009.
Ms.
Maurer was invited to the 1999 Spoleto Festival U.S.A. to prepare and
perform in the American premiere of Kurt Weill’s Die Bürgshaft under
the musical direction of Julius Rudel. The critical and popular
success of the production resulted in the first commercial recording of
the work, and was released in the summer of 2000 on the EMI label,
featuring Ms. Maurer playing the piano as part of the Spoleto Festival
Orchestra.
Born
in Tel Aviv, Ms Maurer is fluent in several languages in addition to
her native Hebrew. She is a graduate of the Rubin Academy in Israel and
received a Master of Music degree in Accompanying from the Manhattan
School of Music.
Ms.
Maurer is on the faculty of the Israel Vocal Arts Institute, as well as
the International Institute of Vocal Arts in Chiari, Italy, and joined
the music staff of the Wolf Trap Festival Opera in the summer of 2005.
